Saturday Split for the Leopards

The Leopard volleyball team went 1-1 in SCIAC action Saturday.

The 1:00 PM match against Caltech resulted in a 3-0 (25-17, 25-10, 25-11) win. At the top of the leader board was sophomore outside hitter Brittany Yaxley with 13 kills (.571) and 5 digs. Following close behind her was freshman middle blocker Kelsi Robinson who posted 10 kills (.316).

Round two for the Leopards pitted them against Occidental College. The 6:00 PM start was paused long enough for a moment of silence in tribute to our recent Sports Information Director, Will Darity, who died this week.  After a nod to our lost friend, the Leopards took the floor.  It took La verne game one (17-25) to get into their groove, and by game two (23-25) it looked as if they had figured it out.  But it was not to be. Even behind the unstoppable assaults issued by Brittany Yaxley (16 kills) and the defense from junior Libero Anna Suarez (10 digs), La Verne was unable to earn the win. Game three ended 17-25.

La Verne next takes the floor at 7:30 PM on September 24th at home versus SCIAC opponent CMS who is currently ranked 20th in the nation (AVCA Poll).
