La Verne volleyball team encounters setback

The University of La Verne volleyball squad lost to conference foe Chapman Saturday evening in four sets.

The Leopards dropped the first two sets 27-25 and 25-17 before a 25-20 comeback in the third. Another narrow 26-24 loss in the fourth set ended the match.

Sophomore outside hitter Brittany Yaxley again led the La Verne offense with 18 kills while sophomore outside hitter Ashlyn Cross had eight. Freshman setter Tiffany Mancuso chipped in with 37 assists and three service aces, while junior libero Anna Suarez made 22 digs. 

The Leopards (5-13, 2-5 SCIAC) had a .162 hitting percentage on the night versus Chapman's (11-5, 4-0 SCIAC) .192.

La Verne will travel to the Colorado College Tournament in Colorado Springs, Colo. next weekend. The first match is set for 12 p.m. Friday against Hamline (Minn.).
