LEXINGTON, Ky. — After a stellar 2014 campaign, La Verne volleyball duo of Kelsi Robinson and Brittany Yaxley is now garnering national attention.
On Thursday, the American Volleyball Coaches Association announced that Robinson and Yaxley were selected to the 2014 AVCA Division III All-West Region Team, the first such honors for either player.
Junior outside hitter Yaxley is ranked eighth and 19th nationally in points per set (5.16) and kills per set (4.19), respectively. She also led the SCIAC in aces per set with 0.85.
Robinson has emerged as one of the best blockers in the nation, ranking fourth in the nation in blocks per set with 1.37. Robinson also has eight matches with five or more total blocks this season.
Both Robinson and Yaxley were also named the 2014 First Team All-SCIAC last week.
The SCIAC was well-represented on the team, placing eight members on the 14-woman squad.
The pair will lead the Leopards on Friday against No 21 Trinity (Texas) in the first round of the NCAA National Championship. The first serve is at 5:30 p.m.
