Volleyball sweeps Caltech

LA VERNE, Calif. — The University of La Verne volleyball team picked up their third straight win by defeating Caltech, 25-15, 25-7, 25-13, on Tuesday night at the Sports Science and Athletic Pavilion. 

With the win, La Verne improves to 12-4 overall and 6-2 in the SCIAC. Caltech falls to 1-11 and 0-7 in the conference.   

The Leopards hit .411 as a team and limited Caltech to just .093.

Kelsie Sievers led the Leopards with eight kills on a .538 hitting and the Leopards received contributions from up and down the roster. Marisa Rojo had four kills, an ace and a match-high six digs. Alexia Balistreri had five kills and a block. Tessa Michalosky had three kills and a block. Teagan Griffiths tied Rojo with six digs while Kristen Sanchez followed with five digs.

La Verne also registered 16 aces a team, with Sarah Yauchzee leading the way with four and Delaney Lynch notched three.

The Leopards were completely dominant throught. La Verne opened the first set on a 10-3 run stretched the lead to as much as 21-7. The Beavers hit .000 as a team in the second set and while the third set started out a little closer, the Leopards ripped off a 7-0 run to get out to a 13-5 lead and never looked back.

La Verne hosts the annual Leopards Invitational on Oct. 7-8. The Leopards' first game is against UC Santa Cruz on Friday at 7 p.m.
