No. 15 Leopards beat Redlands on the road

REDLANDS, Calif.  — After dropping the first set, the No. 15 University of La Verne volleyball team found their groove and dominated the next three sets to beat the Redlands Bulldogs 3-1 Saturday afternoon.

Season Impact: With the win, the Leopards improve to 8-1 overall and remain undefeated in SCIAC play with a 2-0 record. The Bulldogs fall to 2-4 overall and 0-1 in the conference with the loss.

Marisa Rojo had a big game attacking for La Verne, finishing with a hitting percentage of .355 and a game-high 14 kills. The senior also added 10 digs and three total blocks. Delaney Lynch added 11 kills and three block assists. Lynch leads the Leopards with 99 kills this season.

Redlands got off to a fast start in the opening set, jumping out to a 10-3 lead. The Leopards battled back to 23-21 but couldn't get any closer in the set.

But the Bulldogs' lead wouldn't last for long. The Leopards responded the following set, closing with a 5-1 run to pull the match even at 1-1.

The Leopards kept the momentum in the last two sets, with the Bulldogs never getting close enough to threaten La Verne.

Alexia Balistreri had an efficient game, hitting .467 with seven kills. The senior also added four total blocks. Katelyn Winiecki had a big game at the net finishing with six blocks.

Libero Kristen Sanchez finished with 16 digs. Kelsie Sievers put down seven kills in the win. 

The Bulldogs were led by Melanie Fyda's 13 kills and Hannah Lanyon's 12 kills.

Next Game: The Leopards have another big game on Friday, September 22 when they try to take down No. 8 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps on the road at Roberts Pavilion. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
