No. 14 Volleyball falls to No. 7 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps on the road

CLAREMONT, Calif. — The No. 14 University of La Verne volleyball team battled on the road against No. 7 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, but the Leopards couldn't overcome hot hitting from the Athenas, falling 3-0 at Roberts Pavilion Friday night. 

Set Scores: 25-16, 25-12, 25-12 

Season Impact: The Leopards suffer just their second loss of the season, moving to 8-2 overall and 2-1 in SCIAC play. Claremont-Mudd-Scripps improves to 9-4 overall and 2-0 in the SCIAC.

Delaney Lynch led the Leopards with 12 kills in the match. Madison Maynes dished out 13 assists with Natalie Barragan adding six of her own.

In the opening set, the Athenas took the lead on an early 4-0 run and held on to the lead the rest of the way. The Leopards were led by Lynch's three kills in the set with an ace by Barragan. Claremont-Mudd-Scripps totaled 15 kills in the set. Maynes added four assists. 

La Verne fell behind early in the second set and couldn't recover. Lynch led the Leopards again, putting down four kills in the set. The Athenas caught fire hitting .600 in the set to take the 2-0 lead.

Claremont-Mudd-Scripps jumped out to another early lead in the final set and held on to close out the match.

Kelsie Sievers added four kills. Lynch and Sievers each finished with a block.

Margo Mafra Spencer led Claremont-Mudd-Scripps with nine kills. Mariah Rigg, Melanie Moore, and Margaux Arntson each added six total blocks. 

Next Match: The Leopards are back in action tomorrow night when they take on the Caltech Beavers at home at 5:30 p.m.
