No. 14 Volleyball falls to Austin

LA VERNE, Calif. — Marisa Rojo led all players with 14 kills, but the University of La Verne volleyball team fell at home to Austin College on the first day of the Leopard Invitational.

Set Scores: 17-25, 25-21, 29-27, 25-22

Season Impact: The Leopards move to 14-4 overall and Austin improves to 16-6.

Delaney Lynch also totaled double-digit kills, finishing with 12 to go with seven digs and two block assists.

Katelyn Winiecki led her team with six total kills with Alexia Balistreri adding five total blocks. Balistreri also put down eight kills on .353 hitting.

Kristen Sanchez led all players with 21 digs. Natalie Barragan and Madison Maynes stayed busy all night, dishing out 22 and 21 assists respectively.

With the game tied at a set apiece, both squads battled at the end of the third set. Lynch slammed down a kill to tie the game at 25-25 and the Leopards went up by one after an attack error by the Kangaroos.

Austin College retook the lead 27-26 but then served the ball into the net to tie the set back up. But the Kangaroos took the next two points to win the set.

Next Game: The Leopards are back in action tomorrow to finish the Leopards Invitational. They open up the day against Scranton at noon and finish the day with a 6 p.m. match against UC Santa Cruz.
