
LA VERNE, Calif. — Marisa Rojo and Delaney Lynch both totaled double-digit kills and the University of La Verne volleyball team ended the Leopard Invitational with a 3-1 win over the UC Santa Cruz Banana Slugs.
Set Scores: 21-25, 25-23, 25-13, 25-13
Season Impact: The Leopards improve to 13-5 overall and UC Santa Cruz drops to 3-16.
Rojo led all players in the match with 13 kills with a .417 hitting percentage and added 17 digs. Lynch turned in 11 kills and led the Leopards with five blocks assists.
Kristen Sanchez had a big game for La Verne finishing with five aces and 20 digs in the game.
After the Leopards dropped the opening set, they edged out UCSC in a close second set. Katelyn Winiecki and Kiana Valdivieso teamed up for a block to put La Verne up 24-23. Then Sanchez closed out the match with an ace to even the game 1-1.
The Leopards ran away with the final two sets, closing out the final set hitting .310 as a team.
Alexia Balistreri finished with four block assists.
Madison Maynes totaled 30 assists with Natalie Barragan adding 14.
Claire Okerlund led the Banana Slugs with nine kills.
Next Game: The Leopards return to SCIAC play on Tuesday when they travel to Thousand Oaks to play Cal Lutheran at 7 p.m.
