Rojo, Sanchez named First Team All-SCIAC

LA VERNE, Calif. — Marisa Rojo and Kristen Sanchez have been tabbed First Team All-SCIAC the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference announced Monday afternoon.

The pair led the Leopards to a second place finish in the SCIAC with an 11-5 conference record and an 18-8 overall record. 

Rojo has led La Verne offensively all season, racking up 277 kills, a career high and third most in the conference. The senior also stepped up defensively, ranking second on her squad with 241 digs while totaling 27 blocks. She has also put down 23 service aces.

Sanchez has been a force for the Leopards defensively. The libero tops the conference with 489 digs and places second with 4.66 digs per set, both career highs. The junior has also made a huge impact serving for La Verne and ties for first in the SCIAC with 43 aces which is also a career mark. 

Rojo and Sanchez both earned SCIAC second team honors last season.

Sophmore Mireya Rojo was named to the All-Sportsmanship team.

The Leopards next host the Cal Lutheran Regals in the SCIAC Postseason Semifinals this Thursday at 7 p.m. Claremont-Mudd-Scripps will host Chapman in the other semifinal match also on Thursday at 7 p.m.
