LA VERNE, CA — University of La Verne volleyball player Madison Maynes and Leopards men's water polo player Ian Hernandez have both been named SCIAC Athletes of the Week the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference announced Monday.

Maynes was named the volleyball specialist of the week after leading the Leopards to a pair of wins and a close five-set loss to No. 5 CMS. The setter finished the week with 125 assists including 46 against the defending national champions. She added 43 assists in a road win at Redlands and dished 36 assists in a sweep over Caltech. The junior also added 42 digs and six kills.

Hernandez was named men's water polo defensive athlete of the week after two big games in the cage for La Verne. The goalie racked up 15 saves and grabbed two steals in a big 7-4 win over Cal Lutheran and added 11 saves on the road against the Redlands Bulldogs
