La Verne, CA - The University of La Verne volleyball team hosted Claremont-M-S this afternoon at the Tents. The scoreboard went back and forth as the Leopards held their ground, but they fell short in a three set match, (25-23), (25-20), (25-19).
Ayana Mier and Mya Ray paced the Leopards offense with a combined 20 kills. The headstrong Leopards played a restless game, but it ultimately came down to offensive errors on La Verne's side of the net. The Leopards intimidated the Athenas during the last leg of the first set, driving a 3-point lead to a one-point lead (24-23). After a timeout by CMS, they grounded the last kill, ending the set.
The second and third sets both tied at 18-18. La Verne did not go out without a fight, leaving the full crowd on the edge of their bleachers. Sophomore Noelani Soma was another force for the Leopards, having 7 kills for the night.
La Verne heads to Chapman University on Tuesday for a conference face-off at 7 pm. Watch live to support your Leopards.
