La Verne Sweeps Caltech On The Road

Pasadena, CA - The University of La Verne volleyball team traveled to Pasadena, California for a Friday night match with Caltech. Tonight's match-up was another battle for supremacy in the SCIAC standings.
The Leopards came into the game looking to gather another victory as they began a three-game road trip.

The first set of the match belonged to the Leopards as they defeated Caltech in a close contest 25-23. The Leopards would score the first three points of the match before Caltech got on the board. The Beavers would get no closer than three points as La Verne led the entire set. The second set would see LA Verne come from behind, initially down 4-0 to Caltech. The Leopards would then trade points with their opponent until Freshman Mya Ray gave the Leopards a 10-9 lead on a kill set up by Madison Smith. Caltech would tie the game at ten apiece but would no longer be in the set as La Verne finished them 25-19.


The Leopards finished the sweep in the third set, playing stronger and dominating the Beavers in a 25-11 victory.


Mya Ray led LA Verne with 18 kills while Nalani Young and Ayana Mier each had 8 kills. Nalani Young also had 4 aces in the match and Jordyn Patton, the reigning SCIAC Specialist of the Week had 36 assists.
The Leopards are back in action on October 15th at Pomona-Pitzer. The match starts at 2:00 PM.
