Leopards Compete at Arizona State Invite

The University of La Verne women's water polo team competed in the Arizona State Invite against Division I opponents Hartwich, Colorado St., and No. 18 ranked Michigan and Division II Cal Baptist.  La Verne dropped all four games in the tournament.  Freshman newcomer Ryanne Bible led the Leopards with 5 goals on the weekend. 

La Verne opened up the invite against Cal Baptist in the second meeting of the year between the two squads.  Goals by Bible and Nicole Tuning would keep the Leopards within one goal after three quarters but Cal Baptist would shut out La Verne in the final frame while adding three insurance goals to cap the match 8-4.

In game two against Colorado St. the Leopard offense would awaken as Bible tacked on a pair of goals along with Alex Gudeneau, Katie Lacek, and Alexis Zamora to keep La Verne within one heading into the half.  However, the Colorado St. offense would explode with a five goal third quarter while shutting the Leopards out to hand the Leopards a 13-9 loss. 

The tournament would continue on Sunday with La Verne taking on Michigan.  The Wolverines displayed a potent offensive attack and formidable defense allowing Bible and Melissa Pryor to provide the only Leopard goals in the 20-2 loss.

The Leopards would conclude tournament play with a 13-5 loss against Hartwick College.  Hartwick carried an 8-3 lead into the half.  Gudeneau provided accounted for all three La Verne goals in the first half.  Lacek and Pryor would both score once in the second half in the 13-5 defeat.   Lauren Shepard recorded 11 saves in the contest.

La Verne is now 9-14 overall and will compete against Brown on Tuesday, March 26 at Claremont in a 4:00 pm start.
