LA VERNE – The University of La Verne women's water polo team got goals from five different players and played solid defense as it beat Washington and Jefferson, 8-4, on Friday for its second win of the season.

Catie Tuning scored the game's first two goals to get the Leopards out to a 2-0 lead and Justine Mojarro added another in the 1st quarter. Washington and Jefferson responded with goals from Sara Boldt and Rachel Clauss to get within 3-2 by the end of the 1st, but that was as close as it would get.

The Leopards shut the Presidents out in the second and third quarters while adding five of their own during that stretch to open up an 8-2 lead.

Lora Marquez-Salgado, Sara Jefferis and Mojarro each scored in the third quarter. Amber Tardif founded the net in the 3rd and Tuning also scored in the quarter to complete the hat trick.

Washington and Jefferson scored two and kept the Leos out of the net in the 4th, but it was too little, too late.

Jacqueline Rojas made four saves for La Verne.

La Verne returns to the pool tomorrow at 11 a.m. to face Macalester (Minn.) at the La Verne Aquatic Center.
