Women’s Water Polo dominates Caltech for first SCIAC win

PASADENA — Amber Tardif scored five goals, Megan Little had three and the University of La Verne women's water polo team cruised to a 18-2 win over Caltech on Wednesday at Braun Athletics Center.

La Verne improves to 3-9 on the season and 1-1 in SCIAC play. Caltech falls to 0-11 and 0-1.

In addition to Tardif and Little, seven other Leopards got on the scoresheet.

The outcome was never in doubt.

La Verne fired off eight unanswered goals in the first quarter as seven different Leopards got on the board. The Beavers stopped the bleeding with a power play goal to open the second quarter, but La Verne answered with a 5-0 run and the Leopards took a 14-2 lead into the break.

The Leopards took their foot off the gas in the second half but still managed four goals while shutting out the Beavers.

Soumya Kannan and Mary Boyajian scored Caltech's goals.

La Verne returns to action on Saturday when it hosts Cal Lutheran. First sprint is at 11 a.m.
