Women’s Water Polo tops Chapman, wins sixth in a row

LA VERNE, Calif. — Catie Tuning scored a game-high four goals, Jasmine Bustamante netted three and the University of La Verne women's water polo won its sixth game in a row with a 14-9 win over Chapman on Saturday morning at La Verne Aquatics Center.

La Verne improves to 14-3 overall and remains a perfect 4-0 in SCIAC play. Chapman falls to 8-16 and 3-2.

The Leopards went on a 4-0 run in the second quarter to break the game open and never looked back. With La Verne nursing a 4-3 lead, Megan Little got the streak going with her first goal of the game at the 3:32 mark, Lora Marquez-Salgado scored just 20 seconds later and Jasmine Bustamante extended the lead to 7-3. Tuning capped the run at the 1:07 mark.

Chapman never got any closer than four goals. The Panthers got within 11-7 early in the fourth on a goal by Kate Avery, but the Leopards unleashed three unanswered goals to put the game away.

Megan Little finished with two goals. Candice Vorbeck, Guarina Garcia, Stephanie Rosero and Salena Zapata each had one goal.

Cambria Serrano had 12 saves in net for the Leopards.

The Leopards are back in action on Wednesday at Occidental.
