Women's Water Polo tops Redlands, 12-7

LA VERNE, Calif. —  Guarina Garcia scored five goals, Megan Little had four and the University of La Verne women's water polo team beat Redlands, 12-7, on Wednesday at La Verne Aquatics Center.

La Verne improves to 16-4 overall and 6-1 in the SCIAC. Redlands falls to 6-22 and 2-5.

La Verne got out to a quick start as Garcia and Little notched two goals apiece to stake the Leopards out to a 4-1 lead after the first quarter.

The Bulldogs got two back early in the second quarter as Taylor Christie and Stefanie Goldbach scored within 40 seconds of each other to get Redlands within 4-3 but that was as close as it would get. Catie Tuning and Garcia answered with back-to-back goals to put the Leopards back up by three goals and the Leopards kept the Bulldogs at bay the rest of the way.

The teams traded just one goal apiece in the thrid and La Verne outscored Redlands, 4-2, in the fourth quarter to put the game away. The Leopards led by as many as five goals.

Tuning finished with two goals and Candice Vorbeck added one.

The Leopards wrap up the regular season on Saturday at Whittier. First sprint is at 11 a.m.
