LA VERNE, Calif. — Brown used a 6-0 first half run to beat the La Verne women's water polo team 16-9 on Tuesday morning at Las Flores Park.
Guarina Garcia and Zoe Krater scored back-to-back goals in the first quarter to tie the game at 2-2 for La Verne but the Bears responded with a run of six uanswered goals to take control.
Garcia, Stephanie Rosero and Jasmine Bustamante led La Verne's attack with a pair of goals each.
Brown's Carmen Rosas led all players with six goals, including three during the big first half run.
Rosero converted a 5-meter penalty in the opening minute of the second half and Bustamante followed with a goal to get La Verne within 10-6 but that was as close as it would get as the Leopards couldn't string together a run.
Kratzer, Hayley Cates and Victoria Mezack each finished with a goal. Cates added two assists.
The Leopards are back in action tomorrow at Pomona-Pitzer.
