Women's Water Polo routs Caltech 21-6

PASADENA, Calif. — The La Verne women's water polo team cruised to a 21-6 victory on Wednesday at Caltech as five Leopards scored multiple goals.

Guarina Garcia led the way with five and Rya Minow was right behind with four. Jasmine Bustamante and Stephanie Rosero each notched a hat trick, and Heather Barba finished with two goals.

The Leopards ripped off a 13-0 run spanning from late first quarter to halfway into the third quarter. After Caltech's Brittany Percin scored at the 1:50 mark in the first quarter to cut Caltech's deficit to 3-2, Garcia scored on the ensuing possession, Candice Vorbeck got on the board and Bustamante scored with three second left in the period to give the Leopards a 6-2 lead.

La Verne went on to score seven goals in the second quarter while shutting out Caltech to take a 13-2 advantage at the break. The Leopards scored three more unanswered to start the second half and cruised to the win.

Samantha Farias Murillo, Megan Little and Teresa Zuniga added one goal apiece for La Verne.

Percin led the Beavers with five goals.

The Leopards are back in action on Saturday at home against Occidental.
