Women's Water Polo tops Cal Lutheran to end season

LA VERNE, Calif. — Stephanie Rosero scored three goals, Guarina Garcia had a goal and two assists, and the La Verne women's water polo team beat Cal Lutheran 9-7 in the third place match of the 2017 SCIAC Championships.

The Leopards finish third overall in the SCIAC and end the season with a 14-10 record.

Rosero got the Leopards on the board with an early penalty shot and Logan Young answered for the Regals to tie the game at 1-1 two minutes into the game. The teams held each other in check before Jasmine Bustamante broke the tie with 1:30 left in the first period and the Leopards scored two more unanswered goals early in the second quarter to grab control.

La Verne's Megan Little and Cal Lutheran's Kristi McGee traded a pair of goals to close the first half and the Leopards took a 6-3 lead at the break.

The Regals took a slight edge in the second half but the Leopards didn't allow them to string anything together.

Little tied for the game-high in goals with three. Bustamante added an assist to go along with her goal and Ardelle Aquino scored a goal.

McGee, Young and Nicole Roed each had a pair of goals for Cal Lutheran.
