Women's Water Polo beats Presidents and Tigers

LA VERNE, Calif. — The University of La Verne women's water polo team was dominant on Wednesday, recording wins over Washington and Jefferson and Occidental at Las Flores Park.

Season Impact: The Leopards have won four of their last five games improving to 6-9 overall and 3-4 in SCIAC play.

Conference Leaders: After her performance today, Jassmine Kezman increases her lead as the top goal scorer in the conference with 46 goals. She also leads in points with 54. Shelby Garcia currently leads the SCIAC with 113 saves.

Right behind Kezman ranking second in the conference is Jasmine Bustamante with 35 goals. Bustamante ties for fourth in points at 41. Victoria Mezack ranks third in the SCIAC in assists with 16.

La Verne 12, Washington and Jefferson 7

Bustamante netted three goals and the Leopards jumped out to a 9-3 halftime lead to roll past the Presidents.

The Leopards went up 4-0 after a pair of goals by Bustamante, one by Kezman, and another by Yuri Ujifusa before the Presidents were able to get on the board.

Susana Curiel and Mezack both dished out a pair of assists. 

Garcia finished with five saves and Samantha Murillo and Delaney Moller each grabbed three saves.

La Verne 14, Occidental 5

Kezman went off, finishing with six goals to lead La Verne to its second win of the day.

The freshman extended La Verne's lead to 4-0 after firing a goal past Oxy's goalie from half tank.

Mezack kept the Leopards rolling in the second quarter, poking the ball away to go on a breakaway. She finished the play beating the goalie one-on-one to put La Verne up 5-0.

It was more of the same in the second half. Bustamante got the Leopards started in the third period, stealing the ball, taking it to the other side of the pool and finishing with a lob shot to extend the Leopards' lead to 7-0.

Bustamante, Emily Mena, and Mezack each finished with two goals. Mezack added three assists. 

Garcia was outstanding in the cage, finishing with 12 saves.

Next Game: The Leopards are back in action tomorrow with an 11 a.m. game against Cal State East by at Las Flores Park.
