LA VERNE, CA — Shelby Garcia has been named the SCIAC Women's Water Polo Defensive Athlete of the Week the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic office announced on Monday.
Garcia led the Leopards to a big 7-6 overtime win against Claremont-Mudd-Scripps. The junior recorded two penalty shot saves including one in the fourth quarter with the game tied 4-4. She also added another big one-on-one save in the fourth to keep the Leopards in the game.
Garcia finished with 11 saves and allowed just six goals. She also finished with eight saves and a steal in a close 13-12 loss against Cal Lutheran.
