LA VERNE, CA — Shelby Garcia has been named SCIAC Women's Water Polo Defensive Athlete of the Week the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference announced Monday.
Garcia was solid in a pair of SCIAC wins for the Leopards last week. The junior recorded seven saves and three steals while allowing just four goals in a big win 8-4 over Redlands on Saturday.
She led the Leopards in an 11-7 win over Chapman earlier in the week, grabbing nine saves and allowing only seven goals. The junior also held Brown to just three goals in a half of work in the non-conference game.
Garcia earned SCIAC Athlete of the Week honors earlier this season after recording two penalty shot saves in a 7-6 overtime win over Claremont-Mudd-Scripps and grabbing 11 saves against Cal Lutheran.
