Women's Water Polo rolls past Caltech

LA VERNE, CA — The University of La Verne women's water polo team rolled past the Caltech Beavers 12-6 on Wednesday.

Season Impact

The Leopards improve to 9-12 overall and 7-4 in the SCIAC. More importantly, the Leopards remain in a tie for third place in the conference standings with Claremont-Mudd-Scripps.

The Beavers fall to 2-15 overall and 0-11 in conference play.

Stat Leaders

Eight Leopards scored in the win. Jassmine Kezman finished with three goals, two steals, and an assist. Guarina Garcia scored three times with a steal.

Jordan Ehara, Emilie Eastman, Christine Castrellon, Mercy Gonzales, Ilene Guerrero, and Samantha Murillo each scored once.

Kelly Riedel added two steals and an assist. Sage Nowell totaled two assists and one steal. Gonzalez added two steals and Sara Winsky finished with an assist.

Murillo got the star in the cage finishing with four saves and a steal. Elisa Novo added one save in the second half.

Final Stretch

With three games remaining in the regular season, the Leopards are in a four-team race for the final two spots in the SCIAC Postseason Tournament with Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, Whittier, and Redlands. Pomona-Pitzer and Cal Lutheran have both claimed a berth. 

With games still remaining in the Athenas and Regals, the Leopards still control their destiny.

Next Game

The Leopards next face off against the Athenas this Saturday at 11 a.m. at Axelrood Pool. La Verne defeated Claremont-Mudd-Scripps 7-6 in their first match-up this season.
