LA VERNE, CA — Shelby Garcia has been tabbed SCIAC Women's Water Polo Defensive Athlete of the Week the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference announced Monday.
Garcia finished with eight saves and three steals in a 13-12 sudden victory overtime win against Fresno Pacific Saturday afternoon.
The senior made her biggest save of the game on the opening possession of sudden victory. The Sunbirds won the sprint and had an opportunity to end the game, but Garcia came up clutch and kept the Leopards alive.
Jassmine Kezman capitalized off the defensive stop and scored the winning goal on the Leopards' ensuing possession.
Next Game
The Leopards take a break for a couple of weeks before head getting back to action at the Macalester Invitational. La Verne opens up the invite on Saturday, February 22 with games against Monmouth Colege and Macalester and closes out the tournament the next day against Carthage and Macalester.
