Trinh, Garcia Named SCIAC Athletes of the Week

LA VERNE, CA — Nancy Trinh and Shelby Garcia have been tabbed SCIAC Athletes of the Week the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference announced. The pair earned the honors after leading the University of La Verne women's water polo team to a perfect 4-0 week at the Macalester Invitational.

Trinh earned SCIAC Women's Water Polo Offensive Athlete of the Week after leading the Leopards with 11 goals in the four wins. The freshman netted at least one goal in every game and added six steals, six drawn exclusions, and one assist. Trinh had her best individual performance in a 19-8 win over Macalester when she scored a game-high six goals and added a pair of steals and drawn exclusions.

Garcia picked up SCIAC Women's Water Polo Defensive Athlete of the Week for the second time this season. The senior goalie finished with 23 saves and two steals in the wins and also dished out six assists. In the Leopards' opener against Monmouth, Garcia totaled seven saves in just one half of work and allowed no goals. In the weekend finale, Garcia grabbed seven saves and dealt four assists in a 19-8 win over host Macalester.

The Leopards dominated their opponents in Minnesota, outscoring their competitors a combined 74-27 in the four contests.

Next Game

The Leopards play their SCIAC opener on Wednesday, March 4 at 7 p.m. when they travel to Redlands.
