LA VERNE, CA — Shelby Garcia has been named SCIAC Women's Water Polo Defensive Athlete of the Week the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference announced. 

Shelby Garcia was dominant in the cage in a 17-4 win over Chapman. The senior recorded six saves while allowing just two goals in three quarters of work.

This is Garcia's third time earning the defensive weekly award. The senior picked up the award after leading La Verne in a 13-12 sudden-victory overtime win over Fresno Pacific and again after helping the Leopards post a 4-0 record at the Macalester Invitational.

The Leopards finished the abbreviated season 10-5 overall and 2-0 in SCIAC play.
