Leopards Battle Poets In SCIAC Matchup

Whittier, California – The University Of La Verne's women's water polo team took on the Whittier Poets in a SCIAC road conference game. The Leopards looked to get back to their winning ways, coming off a heartbreaking, come from behind one-point loss to Claremont-M-S in their last SCIAC game at home. The Leopards entered the scoring column first as Dani D'Andrea and Nanea Mattson scored the Leopards first two goals of the game. The Leopards finished the first quarter of play with a 4-3 lead over the poets. The Leopards would score four more goals in the second quarter of play but would give up five goals, resulting in a tied halftime score of 8-8. A closely contested match throughout, the Leopards would be outscored by the Poets 3-2 in the third quarter, entering the fourth quarter, trailing by a score of 11-10. Battling throughout an intense fourth quarter, the Leopards' efforts came up short as they would lose a close game to the Poets by a final score of 14-13. Six different Leopards would score goals on the day (Jassmine Kezman (4), Sumi Rudisky (3), Nancy Trinh (2), Dani D'Andrea (2), Nanea Mattson (1), Abby Nunez (1) goals scored) and goalie Kate Carlyle would have six saves on the day.

 

The Leopards return to action today with two games; Ottawa University at 9:00 am and Biola University at 3:00pm.
