Leopards Take On Cal Lutheran On Senior Day

La Verne, California - The University of La Verne women's water polo team welcomed Cal Lutheran to the La Verne Aquatics Center for a home SCIAC contest. The match-up had significant playoff implications, as a Leopards win would help them in their push towards the SCIAC Conference Tournament. The Leopards also recognized their seniors for their contributions to the program, as the game was also the home finale. Playing with tenacity and high emotion, the Leopards jumped out the gate aggressively, as a goal by senior Dani D'Andrea put the Leopards on the scoreboard at the 7:39 mark of the first quarter. Senior Sumiko Rudisky would score another goal for the Leopards off of an assist from Dani D'Andrea giving the Leopards a 2-0 Lead. Nanea Mattson would also score a goal for the Leopards. The match would go back and forth throughout the first period of play as Cal Lutheran would score three goals and the first period of play would end with both teams tied at three apiece. Cal Lutheran would go on a run in the second quarter, scoring five goals and taking an 8-5 lead into halftime. Bianca Sanchez would score two goals for the Leopards in the third period and Nancy Trinh would score one goal for the Leopards as they would trim the lead to a three-point deficit, trailing 11-8 after three periods of play. Senior Dani D'Andrea would score a goal for the Leopards in the fourth period but it would be their only goal as they fell to Cal Lutheran by a final score of 14-9.


The Leopards return to action on the road Saturday at Claremont-M-S at 11:00 am.
