Leopards Battle Athenas On The Road

Claremont, California. - The University of La Verne women's water polo traveled to Claremont-M-S for a road SCIAC battle. Taking on the Athenas on their senior day, this game would prove to be a highly contested and emotional contest. Throughout the game, the largest deficit for either team would be no greater than two points. La Verne ended the first half of play leading the Athenas by a score of 6-4. Four different Leopards scored goals for La Verne in the first half of play. Through three-quarters of play the Leopards led 8-7, heading into the fourth quarter looking to close out a victory on the road. This game would need a sudden death overtime period to determine the winner. The Leopards had a chance to win at the end of the second overtime but missed on an attempted shot. LA Verne would then give up a goal at the end of the overtime period, losing a nail-biter by a final score of 12-11.


Dani D'Andrea led the Leopards with five goals scored while nancy Trinh scored three goals, Jassmine Kezman added two goals and Abby Nunez scored one goal in the game. Kate Carlyle had eight saves on the day.


The Leopards return to action Wednesday, April 20th at Pomona-Pitzer. The game starts at 7:00 pm.
