Ramirez leads Leopards at UC-Riverside Invitational

Junior Andrea Ramirez paced the University of La Verne women's cross country squad again Saturday, placing 81st in a highly-competitive field at the UC-Riverside Invitational.

In addition to the host school, the Leopards competed against a bevy of Division I competition, finishing 14th in a 20-team field with 378 points in the women's open race.

Ramirez completed the 5,000-meter course in 19 minutes, 58.5 seconds. Sophomore Shelby Sato was the second La Verne runner to cross the finish line in 104th (20:36.6), followed by the freshman duo of Kamalei Lee and Jacquie Scherrer in 118th (20:59.0) and 119th (20:59.4) respectively.  Freshman Andrea Valdez was 146th (21:40.9) and sophomore Yanet Urciaga rounded out the Leopard women's squad in 159th (21:56.4).
The Leopards will be off until the Pomona-Pitzer Invitational Oct. 5. The race will be contested on the Pomona-Pitzer campus, which is also the site of the NCAA Division III West Regional Championship meet Nov. 16
