Leopards Post Personal Records at Stanford Invite

PALO ALTO, Calif. — Competing in one of the most prestigious cross country meets, the University of La Verne cross country team posted solid results at the Stanford Invitational. The women finished 16th among non-NCAA Division I schools while the men finished in 17th place.

La Verne did not emphasize team finish against the strongest field they will face all season, but the Leopards did register numerous personal records.

"You can learn a lot when you put yourself into challenging situations and that's what we did today," La Verne head coach Bryan George said. "I believe this experience will help us at the championship meets later in the season."

Andrea Ramirez continued her torrid start to the season. The senior ran the women's six-kilometer course in 22 minutes, 39 seconds to record another personal best.

"We keep pushing Andrea harder and she keeps improving," Geroge said. "Today was another leap forward for her."

Sophomore Kamalei Lee and freshman Sarah Chang were also impressive on the women's side with both of them beating their personal records. Lee came in at 25:08 and Chang crossed the line at 25:26.

"Sarah showed a lot of competitiveness out there," George said. She's looking more comfortable each time she takes the line"

Bryan Hayes, who brought a wealth of big meet experience and had another good showing, paced the men's team. The junior finished 114th out of 361 competitors with a time of 25:18 on the 8k course.

"Bryan really responded well to the environment," George said of Hayes. "He seems to thrive in the big meets and certainly did that again today."

Senior Jayden Earlywine, who has arguably been the most consistent runner for the men this season, was the second Leopard to cross the line with a personal best 26:03. Junior David Sincockand freshman Alec Franco also posted personal records with 27:25 and 27:36, respectively. Ted Breslow finished with a 27:24.

"Jayden was Mr. Consistent again and Ted did a nice job of leading our second pack in the latter half of the race. He's rounding into form at the right time."

With three non-conference meets in the books, the Leopards will now turn their attention to SCIAC competition. La Verne returns to action on Oct. 17 at SCIAC Multi-Dual held at La Mirada.
