Cerrillos finishes 26th, earns All-West Region honors

SALEM, Ore. — Melissa Cerrillos of the University of La Verne women's cross country team finished 26th at the NCAA Division III West Regional Championship, hosted by Willamette, on Saturday at Bush Park.

The sophomore, who was the only Leopard at the meet, finished the six-kilometer course in 23 minutes, 35.5 seconds, and by virtue of finishing top-35 individually, earned the first All-Region award of her career.

Cerrillos has likely run her last race of the season. The top two teams in the region earn automatic bids to the national championship meet and then individual runners and teams are chosen to fill remaining spots.

Whitworth won the team championship and Maya Weigel of Pomona-Pitzer won the individual championship with a time of 21:33.8.
