CLAREMONT, Calif. — Melissa Cerrillos led the Univerisity of La Verne cross country teams and earned All-West Region honors, finishing in 27th place finish at the NCAA Division III West Regional at Pomona-Pitzer on Saturday.

Cerrillos earns all-region honors for the second consecutive year. The junior finished with a time of 22:59.8.

Rachael Dela Cruz crossed second for the women with at 24:22.3 with Samantha Hanawalt finishing next at 24:50.4.

"The women's team ran great today. They responded well to the higher level of competition and several of them set personal records," said Head Coach Bryan George. "It's satisfying to finish the season on such a high note."

Janice Deguerio (25:45.2) and Ashley Garnica (26:44.7) rounded out the scoring for the women.

Eric Elwell-Lopez was the second finisher for the men's team, crossing with a time of 28:12.0. Marcelo Arcos crossed third for La Verne at 28:39.8.

"The individual efforts were there but the men didn't have the day we were hoping for. I think they gained some valuable experience this year that will only help them in the future," said George. "We aren't graduating anyone this year and I think this group will be much improved next fall."
