Leopards compete at Coyote Challenge

SAN BERNARDINO, CA — The University of La Verne women's cross country team finished with several personal bests Saturday morning at the Coyote Challenge hosted by Cal State San Bernardino.

From the Coach

"The women put together a solid team race today. We had several PR's for 5k but our spread for 1-5 is too big," said head coach Justin Wood. "We'll be working on that and some other things in the next two weeks. I'm confident that we will be ready for our best racing in championship season."

Melissa Cerrillos led the way for La Verne pacing the Leopards with a time of 18:41.7. Rachael Dela Cruz was the next fastest Leopard, coming in at 19:32.5.

Michelle Suarez and Ashley Garnica finished third and fourth for La Verne. Suarez posted a time of 19:39.9 while Garnica crossed the finish line at 20:07.8.

Yasmin Lopez (21:25.2), Karen Cruz (21:50.6), Jesja Pham (22:08.8), and Reiko Fujimoto (22:15.2) closed out the race for La Verne.

Team Finish

The Leopards best 12th overall in the fast field of NCAA Division I, II and III  teams along with junior college squads.

Next Race

The Leopards have a week off before their next competition. The squad will head down the road to compete in the Pomona-Pitzer Invitational on October 6 at 8:30 a.m.
