Cerrillos wraps up season at Nationals

WINNECONNE, WI — Melissa Cerrillos concluded her outstanding senior season Saturday morning in Wisconsin at the 2018 NCAA Division III Cross Country Championships.

Cerrillos was just the third woman in La Verne history to qualify for the meet.

"I'm happy and grateful I made it at the national level in my final season of cross country," said Cerrillos. "I feel like the team and I this year have become closer than we have in the past few years and I wouldn't be where I am now without them. To be able to experience running with such a competitive field makes me super excited for what's to come in track."

Cerrillos ran the second fastest 6K time in her career, crossing at 22:58.6.

"Today capped off an amazing cross country season for Melissa. She had a really solid race today finishing 160th and ran the second fastest time of her career. More importantly, she gained valuable national championship experience and represented the La Verne at the highest level."

In addition to making her way to the national stage, Cerrillos also earned All-West Region and All-SCIAC honors. Cerrillos will be back on the track this spring looking to rack up more awards and top finishes.
