
SAN BERNARDINO, CA — Ashley Garnica and Catherina Posada led the pack and the University of La Verne women's cross country team stepped up in a big way Saturday morning at the Coyote Challenge hosted by Cal State San Bernardino.
The race was the Leopards' best individual and team performance by far this season.

"We are trending in the right direction now and these results really reinforce that," said Head Coach Justin Wood. "I wanted to see focus and a full race effort. The intensity was by far our best of the season."
Times
The Leopards' top-five runners finished with a 45-second spread paced by Garnica's 19:20.05. Catherina Posada finished right behind Garnica, clocking in at 19:20.09.
Mackenzie Lazarus crossed the finish line third for the Leopards with a time of 19:34.88. Bianca Pages clocked in at 19:54.28, Serena Gallegos ended at 20:05.69, and Reiko Fujimoto finished at 20:21.68.
The Leopards improved their average time from 19:53 a year ago to 19:38 today.
Next Race
After a week off, the Leopards will travel to Kentucky to compete at Pre-National. The race will be held on October 5 in Tom Sawyer Park, Louisville, KY.
