Anthony Avila was hired as the Athletics Communication Director at the University of La Verne prior to the start of the 2017-2018 academic year.

Avila is charged with disseminating news and statistics for all of La Verne's intercollegiate athletic teams and oversees all aspects of sports information and media relations for the athletics department. He maintains and updates leopardathletics.com with releases, statistics, rosters, and schedules and manages La Verne athletics' official social media pages. Avila also produces and broadcasts live video streams of all La Verne home games.

In addition, Avila serves as a liaison between La Verne and the SCIAC and NCAA offices. He assists with game management aspects for all home events and helps oversee student-workers and directly manages two graduate assistants and the Coordinator of Statistical Information. In 2020-21 he oversaw a complete redesign of leopardatheltics.com and created online archives for each team as well as the La Verne athletics hall of fame, championships, All-Americans, and Scafani Award winners.

He created the La Verne Athletics Podcast which currently hosts two shows, Leos on the Spot and Know Your Leos, that air interviews with La Verne student-athletes, coaches, staff, and other members of the La Verne community. Avila hosts, produces and edits Leos on the Spot. He currently serves on the La Verne VOICE magazine advisory board, Athletics Hall of Fame committee, and the La Verne Homecoming Committee.  

Avila has over a decade of sports information experience, all in the SCIAC. He served as the first full-time Assistant Director of Sports Information at Pomona-Pitzer from 2016-17. While with the Sagehens, Avila assisted in all aspects of the sports information department and helped host the opening two rounds of the 2016 NCAA Division III women's soccer tournament held on Pomona College's campus.

Before heading to Pomona-Pitzer, Avila served as the Assistant Sports Information Director at Occidental College for two years. He also served as the Sports Information Student Assistant while pursuing his undergraduate degree at Occidental. In addition to his roles in the sports information office, Avila also served as the Intramural Sports Coordinator and Club Sports Supervisor at Oxy.

Avila is a member of the College Sports Information Directors of America and the Minority Opportunities Athletic Association. He was selected to participate in the NCAA Institute for Administrative Advancement in Atlanta during the summer of 2018 and was awarded a grant to attend the 2019 CoSIDA Convention. In 2021, he served as a judge for the CoSIDA District 3 Stabley Writing Contest.

Along with his work in collegiate athletics, Avila worked as the Assistant Athletic Director for the Los Angeles Police Revolver and Athletic Club, the athletic arm of the Los Angeles Police Department. He also worked as a Youth Development Mentor for non-profit Play Rugby USA for six years.

Avila attended Occidental College where he was a member of the men's rugby team for four seasons including the 2011 and 2013 teams that finished ranked 2nd and 5th respectively in the National Small College Rugby Organization and served as team captain and president during his senior season.

A native of Glendora and a proud alumnus of Bishop Amat High School, Avila graduated from Occidental College with a Bachelor of Arts degree in history and earned a Master of Science degree in leadership and management from La Verne.
