THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. —Cal Lutheran football took a 22-21 lead with 50 seconds left, but could not hang on as La Verne went right down the field and stole the game 29-22 on Saturday night.

Down by a touchdown, and 4:08 left on the clock, Cal Lutheran used an eight-play 56-yard drive to tie and take the lead. Quarterback Nick Lasher found Tyler Shimomura for a 19-yard strike and the Kingsmen had a decision to make.

The Kingsmen opted for a two-point conversion, and Lasher rolled to his right and found Jadon Cline wide open in the endzone. La Verne answered the call and the Kingsmen fell to 3-6 overall and 1-4 in SCIAC.

Lasher was 19-31 on the day for 204 yards and one touchdown. Isaiah Martin tallied 19 carries and scored two touchdowns while rushing for 73 yards.

Wide receiver Cameron Jones tallied the most yards in the air with 66, Shimomura was next with 47 yards and Cline had 34.

Randal Voutt led the defense with nine tackles and added half a sack and a pass break-up. Keshaun Charles, Jackson White and Gabriel Hernandez were next with eight tackles and Matt Flynn and Zacharias Muhammad both had seven.

The Kingsmen got on the board first as Martin found the end zone from three-yards out. He gave Cal Lutheran the early lead at 8:52 in the first.

It was the only touchdown in the first quarter and La Verne evened it up in the second. The Leopards score with 7:54 remaining in the half.

The Kingsmen scored on the ensuing possession as Martin scored his second touchdown from one-yard out. The Cal Lutheran defense held the Leopards out of the endzone for the rest of the half as the Kingsmen had a touchdown lead at the half.

In the second half, La Verne scored with 6:45 left in the third as the teams continued exchanging touchdowns. The Leopards then took their first lead in the fourth. The Kingsmen answered and took the lead before La Verne finished off the game.

The Kingsmen have one more game this season. Cal Lutheran will head to Chapman for a regular season finale on Saturday at 7 p.m.
