Lancers Set to Host The Joust

| By:

RIVERSIDE --- California Baptist University's men's golf team will host The Joust from Feb. 24-25 at Goose Creek Golf Course, as the Lancers will welcome 16 teams to their first-ever NCAA Division I tournament.

The two-day tournament will open with 36 holes on Monday, followed by the final 18 holes on Tuesday. Live stats will be provided at golfstat.com and the event is open to the public.

The tournament will feature a 13-team field, while three teams will send a combined six individuals.

"Our program is very excited to host our first D-1 event at Goose Creek," said Coach TL Brown. "We plan to crown two team champions. We will crown the traditional team champion, counting the best four scores each round, but also the all-five champion, where all five scores are counted for each round."

The Joust will be a tournament like no other, as three champions will be crowned after the round on Feb. 25. An individual medalist will be awarded, a team champion will be awarded, and then an All-Five Team Champion will be crowned. Most tournaments allow five golfers to compete, with only four counting scores going towards the team score. The third champion will have to count all five player scores to see who will be crowned the All-Five Team Champion.

Gonzaga, Idaho, Sacramento State, Cal Poly, Dixie State, Fraser Valley, La Verne, North Dakota State, Omaha, Pacific (CA), Seattle, and Utah Valley will make the up 13 teams competing for the team champion and the All-Five Team Champion. Pepperdine is sending one individual, Loyola Marymount is sending two players, and UCLA will have three players teeing up as individuals.

The participating teams and players will have a chance to explore Goose Creek during Sunday's practice round before the competition will take place over the next two days.

The course will play as a par-70 for all three rounds, with day one measuring out to 6,839 yards and day two coming to 6,728 yards.
