Consistency is Key for the Leopards

Story by Cyanna Rosa

The University of La Verne Leopards battled the Carroll University Pioneers Sunday night at home in Ortmayer Stadium.

La Verne goalkeeper, Matthew Logan Reese, was put to work early by Carroll University, as the Pioneers rattled off two goals in the first four minutes of play. The Leopards never gave up, and battled to the final whistle. Logan Reese tallied a season high 9 saves for the game, with four saves in the first and five in the second half.

Midfielder Joel Trejo targeted Pioneer goalie with 4 shots for the night, but it was Midfielder Matt Moreno who put La Verne on the scoreboard at 27:58 in the first half. The play was initiated by a corner kick cleared by the defenders, right into the path of La Verne player, Angel Loza. Pioneer keeper Tyler Hanson blocked Loza’s shot into the 18-yard box to position Moreno for the volley that led to the goal. Offensively the Leopards fired off 7 shots on goal each half (14) for the night.

The Pioneers scored once more in the second half, and the night ended with a Carroll University win and a final score of 1-3.

The ULV men's soccer team will next see action at home game this Thursday, Sept 8th, at 7pm in Ortmayer Stadium.
