Winter Invite, Day 1

Both the La Verne Men and Women currently hold second place in the ten team Winter Invite being held at the Brenda Villa aquatic Center in Commerce Ca.

Both teams are off to a very fast start.  The women rewrote the varsity record in the 1st event of the meet.  The team of Maddie Lovrensky, Jackie Rojas, Sammi Shiomoto and Melanie Consiglio went 1:49.14 to improve the record by more than 3 seconds in their 4th place finish.  The men came very close in the next event-the men's 200 Medley relay-finishing third in a 1:37.39.  Their time was just 2 seconds off the varsity record.

In the 1650 every La Verne swimmer saw a season best as well as huge improvements from earlier in the season.  In the 400 IM Krisyln Cha nudged one step closer to the varsity record going 4:57.15 – only 0.4 seconds off the varsity record and 5 seconds faster than last week.  In the final individual event of the evening Coleman Goode set the mark in the 400 IM.  His 4:14.07 was good enough for third behind NCAA Division III Champion Jeff Depew of Redlands.

In the final 800 freestyle relay the Leopard team of Maddie Lovrensky, Melianie Consiglio, Melissa Pryor, and Sammi Shiomoto set the varsity record of 8:01.32 to finish 4th.  Maddie's lead off leg also set the record in the 200 freestyle going 1:57.94.

The team finished the night with a blazing 7:16.43 to finish in 5th place.

The Winter Invite continues December 14th with prelims at 10 AM and finals at 5 PM.
