VENTURA, Calif. — The University of La Verne Women's Golf team opened up the 2017-18 season with an 11th place finish at the California State Intercollegiate Invitational at Olivas Links (par-72) Tuesday afternoon.

Kirsten Contreras paced the Leopards, tying for 31st individually, improving a shot on day two of the tournament, shooting La Verne's best one-round score at 81 for a final score of 163.

"We're excited to kick off the 2017-18 season with our ladies and see where our starting point is," said Head Coach Eric Riehle. "Some good shots and bad shots this week, but our consistency is sure to improve. Impressive tournament by Kristen on an individual level."

Morgan Malloy improved by five strokes in the second round for a total score of 183. Alexi Gonzalez finished at 219.

Grazia Watkins rounded out the scoring for La Verne with a 224 after both days of competition.
