CLAREMONT, Calif. — The University of La Verne tennis team lost to Texas-Tyler, 7-2, on Saturday at the Claremont Club. The match was originally scheduled for Friday but was postponed after doubles play to to inclement weather.
La Verne falls to 3-7. Texas-Tyler improves to 12-0.
The Patriots opened up the match with a quick 8-1 win at No. 3 doubles but the Leopards bounced back to claim No. 1 and No. 2 doubles to take a 2-1 match lead. Bridget Etchegaray and Savanah Goode beat Mary Alice Blacketer and Tori Musngi, 8-4, at No. 1 and Shenelle Trujillo and Janae Chinn defeated Alexandra McKissick and Nicole Musngi, 8-5, at the second flight.
The momentum changed hands overnight and Texas-Tyler swept the Leopards in singles without dropping a set on Saturday morning. The closest match came at No. 2 where Goode took Tori Musngi to tiebreakers in the first set in an eventual 7-6(4), 6-4 loss.
The Leopards are back in action on Saturday against Washingon College.
