CLAREMONT, Calif. — The University of La Verne tennis team dominated Chapman for a 7-2 victory and snapped a seven-game losing streak on Friday afternoon at the Claremont Club.
La Verne improves to 4-10 overall and 2-1 in the SCIAC. Chapman falls to 1-10 and 1-1.
Janae Chinn and Savannah Fisher got the Leopards to a good start with an 8-0 win at No. 3 doubles over Maya Nowak and Annie Sullivan. Chapman took the top flight as Andrea Hammer and Madeline Saunders prevailed over Bridget Etchegaray and Savanah Goode, 8-4, at No. 1 but Madison Madwell and Areli Martinez picked an 8-4 win at No. 2 to give the Leopards a 2-1 lead heading into singles play.
The singles portion was all La Verne. Fisher dispatched Nowak with a clean sweep at No. 6 and the Leopards took the next four singles match. Goode beat Saunders, 6-4, 6-1, at No. 2, Chinn topped Nicole Fouts, 6-4, 6-3, at No. 3, Madewell defeated Danielle Simmons, 6-1, 6-1, at No. 4 and Areli Martinez beat Thimanthi Withana, 6-3, 6-3, at No. 5.
Andrea Hammer claimed the lone singles win for Chapman with a 3-6, 6-0, 1-0(5) over Etchegaray at No. 1.
The Leopards return to action tomorrow at the Claremont Club against Redlands at 2 p.m.
