Volleyball defeats St. Scholastica in 5

LA VERNE, CA - The Leopard Volleyball team opened up Day 2 of the Pacific Coast Classic Tournament with another 5 set scramble. After losing two straight games to the St. Scholastica (Minn.) Saints to start the match, the Leopards thundered back with a three game sweep to win the match 3-2.

Three La Verne hitters were in the double digits in kills. Freshman hitter Mya Ray had a stellar offensive and defensive performance with 25 kills, 16 digs, hitting .305 overall. While senior middle blocker Kari Esseff fired off a .375 hitting percentage with 13 kills followed by senior outside hitter Ayana Mier with 11 kills.

The defensive side of the game was also in full effect Saturday morning with four Leos in the double digits. Sophomore Libero Madison Smith led the defense with 20 digs followed by sophomore hitter Noelani Soma (17), Maya Ray (16), and senior setter Jordyn Patton (15).

La Verne's next match of the day, and the final match of the tournament, will be against Sul Ross State (Texas) at 7pm.
