Leopards Victorious At Home

La Verne, California - The University of La Verne women's water polo hosted two home games yesterday as they played Chapman University and Occidental College. 

In the first game of the day, the Leopards took on Chapman University. From the onset, La Verne controlled the game, as they scored five goals in the opening period of play, lead by a score of 5-3. The Leopards would score three more goals in the second period, to lead at halftime by a score of 8-5. The second half of play was consistent with the first half of play as the Leopards found the net and also controlled the game on the defensive side. The Leopards had four steals on the day and goalie KAte Carlyle had ten saves in the game as the Leopards defeated Champan by a final score of 15-11. Five different Leopards scored in the game ( Nancy Trinh (5), Jassmine Kezman (3), Sumi Rudisky (3), Nanea Mattson (2), Abby Nunez (2) ) in the victory.

The second game of the day pitted the Leopards vs the Tigers of Occidental College. The Leopards continued their dominance in their match with Occidental, particularly on defense. Intensity, communication and the tenacity to defend the goal was instrumental in La Verne controlling the first half of play, as they entered halftime with a 9-5 lead. Scoring eight more goals in the second half of play and only allowing four goals, the Leopards defeated the Tigers in a convincing 17-9 victory. The Leopards had nine steal in the game, with Nanea Mattson leading the team with three steals. Kate Carlyle had eight saves on nine attempted goals. Seven leopards scored ( Jassmine Kezman (5), Sumi Rudisky (4), Sona Aghasaryan (2), Abby Nunez (2), Dani D'Andrea (2), Nancy TrinhSage Nowell) in the victory.

The Leopards will play on the road at Redlands on Saturday April 2nd at 7:00 pm.
