Rains Storms Can't Slow Leopards

Walnut, CA - The University of La Verne track and field team traveled down the road to Walnut, California to hit the track for some track action today.

As rain and snow storms have catapulted across the southern region of California, there was uncertainty as today's meet approached. The storms through the week caused many track meets to be canceled, leading to the Leopards changing their original itinerary and participating in the Ron Kamaka Open at Mt. Sac. The meet was established to honor the memory and legacy of coach Ron Kamaka, who passed away last year. The meet allowed the Leopards an early head start on the outdoor season.

Amidst the inclement weather, the Leopards were able to prepare for the heart of the season, as they will be participating in SCIAC #1 at Pomona Pitzer. The upcoming meet will be the first of three multi-dual meets over the next two months. Several Leopards had some consistent performances at Mt. Sac. Junior David Lara was just off his own personal best in the Javelin, while Junior Alyssa Galaviz opened her season with two personal best performances in the Shot Put and the Discus.  TK Berhe led the way on the track with a win in the 1500m.

The next week will be a week of preparation for the Leopards as SCIAC #1 approaches. With weather permitting, La Verne will be competing in SCIAC #1 at Pomona Pitzer on March 4th.
