Football Travels To No. 8 Cal Lutheran

The University of La Verne football squad resumes action this week as it takes on the nation's eighth-ranked team in SCIAC leader Cal Lutheran Saturday at Rolland Stadium in Thousand Oaks.

Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m.  Saturday's contest marks the final road game of the season for the Leos.

The Leopards enter Saturday's game 3-4 overall and 3-2 in the SCIAC after last week's 38-12 defeat at Chapman.

On offense, running back Matthew Biggers is the conference's third leading rusher averaging 124 yards per game.  He has rushed for six touchdowns on the season.  Quarterback Travis Carter has thrown for 10 touchdowns and over 1,400 yards thus far this season.

Defensively, linebacker Manuel Macias leads the team in total tackles with 43, including five tackles for loss and one interception.  Sophomore defensive lineman Nik Gutierrez leads the Leopards in sacks with four.

On special teams, punter Jeremy Brown leads the conference in punting, averaging nearly 40 yards per punt. Return specialist Andres Fernandez is averaging nearly 22 yards per kick return.

The Kingsmen remain ranked No. 8 by D3football.com with a 6-1 record including a 5-0 mark in the SCIAC play.  CLU topped Whittier in a 62-38 shootout to remain unbeaten in league competition.  Cal Lutheran is currently fifth in total offense for Division III, averaging over 528 yards of offense.

The Cal Lutheran offensive line has been an area of strength and the quintet of Jordan Austin, Ty Olsen, Andrew Gessler, Seth Zimmerman, and Andrew Pankow has been honored as the D3football.com Offensive Line of the Week for two consecutive weeks.  Quarterback Zach Shultis was 32 of 48 for 442 yards and five touchdowns against Whittier.

CLU wide receiver Eric Rogers is a bona fide All-America candidate who collected 12 catches and 183 yards and two scores in the win last week over the Poets.  He is currently third in Division III for receiving yards per game, averaging 136 yards per outing.
