Blanco sets career high, Leos fall to Loras

LA VERNE — The Leos came up just short in The Tents on Sunday, Dec 19 against the Loras College Duhawks, losing 70-63.

La Verne entered the locker room at the half leading 33-30, but a 14-2 Loras run in a three-minute span pushed the Duhawk lead to 12, proving to be too much for the Leos.

Although the Leopards came up short, a couple performances were at the forefront of La Verne's afternoon highlights.

Duplicating their Saturday performances, juniors Alex Blanco and Brian Adams posted great numbers.

Blanco shot 66% from both the field and from downtown — 6-9 and 4-6 respectively — leading the Leos in yet another career high with 18 points.

Adams, who made his season debut against Knox, improved his field goal percentage by shooting just under 50% from the field, finishing as the second leading scorer with 11 points. Adding to his defensive prowess, the guard also stole the ball twice from the Duhawk offense.

This was a game where the stat sheet and the final score disagreed. Most of the stats showed the Leos outplaying the Loras. The Leos shot a better percentage, had 5 less turnovers, and walked away with two more steals.

The defining stat turned out to be rebounds.  The Loras out rebounded the Leos 49 to 29.

With the loss, the Leos are now 2-9 on the season and stay at 0-2 in the SCIAC. The Duhawks move to 8-2.

La Verne is back in action on Dec. 28 when they travel to Riverside to take on the Cal Baptist Lancers.
